Morgan's Short Fifth Metacarpal...

Morgan saw her Pediatrician today. He sent her to have x-rays of both hands. We thought it wold be several days before we heard anything but received a phone call from our nurse when we were still on our way home. That's pretty prompt service! Anyway, Morgan has a congenital malformation of her fifth metacarpal bone in her hand. There is nothing to be done for it as she has full range of motion and it doesn't cause her any pain. Below is a photo I found of an x-ray (not Morgans hands) of someone with more than one of their metacarpal bones shortened. Morgan's only malformation is the fifth metacarpal bone (the bone below the bottom knuckle on her pinky finger) on her right hand.

Left normal x-ray of a childs hand formed normally. Below, an x-ray of a childs hand with shortened 3rd, 4th, and 5th metacarpals.
